I find ancient jewellery techniques intriguing. I like granulation and have experimented with this technique a bit. I would like to do more, and perhaps combine it in a more contemporary setting.

Some materials the ancient Egyptians used included gold, turquiose agate and silver. I would like to find a way to combine these techniques in a more contemporary way. My mother often talked about amulets and talismans. Probably because it was ingrained in her from her mother’s heritage.I learned from my travels that these beliefs are still very strong in the modern world we live in, especially in the middle east. How different are we from our ancesters and their beliefs?

The ancient Romans used bronze and gold arranged with bone and glass beads.  A model which was predisposed by the Egyptians is the Herakles Knot, with its apotropaice (talisman and amulet) creature to ward off evil.

How did these symbols come about??
